| NCSA Astronomy Digital Image Library Guide: Finding Images | |||||
If you would like to see if the Library contains images of particular objects, you can search for them by name or type from our Query Page. You might first check our lists of names and types of objects currently found in the Library database. Use your browser's "Find" function (Netscape: under the "Edit" Menu) to search for the name or type. The names used by our database are usually standard astronomical names, so you won't find many names like "Taurus" or "Aquila" in the list.
Searching the Library Database
The primary way of looking for images for research purposes is via the
Query Page. This page allows you to
search with a variety of criteria, including sky position, frequency,
object name and type, and origin (e.g. telescope, author, project
title). Consult the
Query Page's Help Page for
details on its use.
Accessing by Codename
If you or a colleague have deposited images into the Library and
already know the project or image codenames
for the data of interest, you may find it easier to access it via our codename search page. Just type in the
codename, and hit "Find it!"
Alternatively, you use the URL to the page directly. Just append the codename to the root, "http://adil.ncsa.uiuc.edu/document"; e.g. "http://adil.ncsa.uiuc.edu/document/95.DR.01". For more details, check the section of this manual on "Direct Access: URLs for Library Items".
